I would LOVE to see Antonio play with either of them, they would both have enjoyed playing off him. Not sure you can compare though.

Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
The point is of course that Antonio isn't playing out wide. He is the main striker and he isn't a natural scorer like Cottee or McAvennie.

What we agree on is there are only 2 or 3 who would come close to being in the 85/86 team and only Rice is a definite shoe in although Cresswell would probably also get the nod at left back from me.

Payet is 34 now and that much slower.

85/6 team shades it for me - we were good everywhere and Geroge Parris could cover pretty much every position bar striker by running his arse off.
Shame it didn't last - I have a feeling that this team could.

Soucek, Rice over Dickens and Orr.

Antonio can play in Ward's place. Still score goals from wide.

boleynkid 10:06 Mon Nov 1
Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
Soucek instead of who? Dickens was more creative and Antonio is our main striker so would you rate him better than Cottee or McAvennie?

I like Bowen a lot but is he really better than Mark Ward?

Bowen reminds me of Pike.

i would put the 85/86 team as better than these

Imagine if we also had a fully committed Payet with this squad.

Soucek gets in CM.
Antonio takes Ward's place.

Only Rice & Cresswell would get into the 85/86 team.

Be like 86 then we get banned from Europe due to some lovely
evil killer fans from up north.

Best I have seen.

And in an era where the money and the gaps are bigger.

But until you win something, hard to say you are the best at anything.

Although 85/86 was our best ever finish it turned out to be a one season wonder. Great memories of that season but it soon fell apart.

Agree with Steady…

I was a regular at UP from 57 to 73…

64-66 was a very special time…

😀😀😀😀

Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
This is a cracking side but not sure they beat the 64-66 side (won 2 cups, league cup runners up) and 3 World Cup winners or the 85/86 team

Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
Too early to say best ever but keep playing like we are then at the end of the season we could be.

Player development under Moyes has been impressive.

I remember how well Arnie started playing for us after Moyes had some time with him.

Current team there are several players who have come on. Cresswell, Declan, Lanzini, Bowen and Diop are all flourishing now under Moyes but Fornals and Johnson IMO have flourished the most. Both had great games today. Can’t wait to see them develop further…..

Benrahma needs to show consistency to keep his spot, if Lanzini continues to come on then he will put Benrahma on the bench soon.

54 goals between them that season.

Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
Paul Goddard arguably one of our best strikers (and an England player) ever couldn't get in the 85/86 team. Cottee and McAvennie were on fire

Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
80/81 side was immense, 85/86 were entertainers but we all knew it was going to be a one off.

This lot seem to have staying power but what I wouldn’t give to have Alan Devonshire in our current side, he would be amazing.

Re: West Ham are the best they have ever been ⚒️
For me and what I can generally remember is the 80/81 side were a top side but generally very experienced. 85/86 were a terrific side with a few unknowns and young players who came good and people forget how good Liverpool and Everton were back then and we nearly won it. This team are building something and doing brilliantly and it's great but for purely for the football played 85/86 will take some beating. If we finish 3rd this year behind City and Chelsea then you compare. Let's just enjoy the now.
